Chile visa requirements for American citizens

Visa is not required for a maximum of 90 days

Travelers do not need a visa for Business or Tourism stays up to 90 days. Travelers need a visa for longer stays.

Keep your PDI Tourism Card to avoid 19% VAT at hotels

Travelers receive a PDI Tourism Card (Tarjeta Unica Migratoria) upon entry to Chile. This document confirms tourist status and qualifies travelers for exemption from the 19% VAT on hotel accommodations.

Travelers should keep the card safe throughout their stay. Most hotels request the card at check-in to apply the VAT exemption. Without the card, hotels may charge the full 19% VAT.

If the card is lost, travelers can request a duplicate online. Some hotels can assist with the replacement process or verify tourist status directly in the system.

This does not apply to:

Chilean nationals;
Foreign nationals residing in Chile.

Mandatory SAG entry form for Chile

All travelers must complete an Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) Affidavit entry form before traveling to Chile. Travelers must complete the SAG entry form online a maximum of 48 hours before arrival in Chile.

This requirement doesn't apply to the following travelers:
