Departing Chicago 

When departing Chicago on your flight to Miami, you will most likely fly out of Chicago Midway Airport or Chicago O’Hare Airport.  While Chicago Midway offers plenty in the way of amenities to pass the time while you wait for your flight and ensure you have everything you need for your trip, the O’Hare Airport is significantly larger and offers many more airline and flight options than Midway. 

Both airports recommend arriving a minimum of two hours before your flight to ensure you will get through check-in and security before your departure.  If you find yourself with some extra time in the airport while waiting for your flight to leave, you can top by the Aeroponic Garden, or display of Chicago artists throughout the terminals of O’Hare or can stop into the yoga room to unwind before your trip from Chicago Midway.

Airline and Flight Options

When flying out of Chicago O’Hare, you will have multiple airline options to choose from including  Frontier, American Airlines, and United which all offer direct flight non-stop service from Chicago to Miami.  You can also find flights with layovers on all of the listed airlines as well as Hahn Air Systems.

While there are no direct flight options from Chicago Midway Airport to Miami, you can reach your destination through connecting cities including Birmingham, Jacksonville, Orlando, Raleigh, and Atlanta.  Midway has fewer airline services to choose from and primarily provide service via Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Porter Airlines. 

Arriving in Miami

When arriving in Miami, you will only experience an hour time difference but will definitely experience a shift in temperature.  Miami runs significantly warmer than the Chicago area with temperatures ranging 20 to 30 degrees hotter.  You may want to make sure to layer your clothing when traveling from Chicago to Miami in the colder months so that you will not be stuck in warm attire as you make your way to your destination.

On your arrival to Miami, you will most likely arrive at the Miami International Airport.  The airport is extremely large, and you may need to hop on a tram to get from your terminal to the exit.  When you leave the airport, you will have plenty of transportation options including taxi service as well as easy access to the Monorail and Miami-Dade Transit Bus public transportation systems.

If you need a car rental for your vacation, you can choose from rental car companies inside the rental car center of the airport which include Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, and Hertz just to name a few.  You can also choose from companies outside of the rental center that are close to the airport and include companies such as Ace, Fox, Avanti, and Executive Car Rental.

Tips for Traveling in Miami

When booking your hotel in Miami, consider taking advantage of one of the many hotels along the coast that offer spectacular ocean views and some even beach access to make your stay memorable.  While the beach is one of the most popular destinations on most visitors’ itineraries, there are some other fantastic sites that are must-sees in the area such as the Miami Seaquarium, Jungle Island, the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, and Lincoln Road.  If you want to get a feel for the culture of the area, be sure to stop by South Beach or check out little Havana or your trip.
