Chicago has two major airports, and it’s possible to fly directly from Denver International Airport(DEN) to either Chicago O’Hare(ORD) or Chicago Midway(MDW.) On the DEN - ORD route, you can fly nonstop with American, Spirit, and United. For DEN - MDW, your choices are Frontier and Southwest.

Making your way to Denver International (DEN)

The clever layout and attractive surroundings of Denver’s airport make it a favorite with passengers. DEN’s Jeppesen Terminal is the heart of operations: all ticketing, check-in, and security happens here. Next you’ll hop onto the free train to one of three parallel concourses, designated A, B, and C. This airport is especially pet-friendly, with a great relief area as well as a premium in-airport boarding facility which boasts amenities like flat-screen TVs, 24 hour webcam links, and paddling pools.

The airport is in the middle of a huge terminal expansion project. This will eventually link DEN with rail connection to the city. Completion is projected for 2016. At the moment, your public transit option is the Skyride frequent bus service. Five bus routes serve the airport, and fares cost between $9 and $13, depending on where you begin your journey.

Arriving in Chicago

Big buildings, big laughs, and big eats: Chicago’s charms are vigorous and hearty -- and they are a great way to begin your time here. Marvel at the amazing architecture (the skyscrapers are breathtaking, especially the 1925 neo-gothic Tribune Tower), seek out the city’s best deep-dish pizza or hotdogs, and catch a show at Second City.

If the weather is halfway decent, an afternoon at Navy Pier is fun for the whole family. There’s an old-fashioned charm to the attractions on offer, and the restaurant, shopping and the museum offerings are first rate. If you’re a baseball fan or traveling with one, you’ll want to stop at historic Wrigley Field: you take a one and a half hour guided tour behind the scenes at the 100-year-old park. Speaking of parks, the gorgeous lakeside Lincoln Park should not be missed. (There’s even a free zoo!)
