Leaving Rome

As you’re leaving Rome, you’ll be flying out of the Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport, and landing at Madrid’s Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport.

The Leonardo da Vinci airport has dozens of places to eat, drink, shop, and relax. If you’re looking for a casual espresso or a fancy Italian dinner after a round of shopping for designer goods, you’ll find it without much trouble. The Leonardo Da Vinci Airport can get very crowded due to the volume of passengers, but it’s built for the capacity and finding a spot to call your own won’t be a problem even at peak times.

You’ll be departing from Terminal 2 or Terminal 3, depending on which carrier you book with. You should have your passport ready to show during boarding and can expect most of the workers to speak flawless English.

Arriving In Madrid

Once you touch down at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport, you’ll most likely be in Terminal 2.

Like Rome, Madrid has a warm Mediterranean climate which should be very similar for most of the year. Madrid can get slightly warmer than Rome, but it shouldn’t be an issue.

Winters are cool but not blisteringly cold, and summers are warm, but seldom stiflingly hot. Pack and dress for mild seasons.

Getting Downtown

You’ll have a few choices to make once you arrive at the transportation hub. To get downtown, taking the Barajas Line 8 can be quick and efficient. If you’re trying to get to somewhere on the periphery of downtown during the daytime, the EMT Bus can take you there, but at night, you’ll need to navigate the night bus, which is more restricted.

You can still contract a cab or get a rental car if you’d prefer, but Madrid’s traffic can be difficult to navigate safely and quickly during the summers.
