Finding cheap flights from Houston to Miami: Frequently asked questions
In spite of the nearly 1,000 miles between Houston and Miami, these cities actually have a lot in common. They are both hot, both wealthy, and both know how to put on the ritz! If you want to trade the Houston’s desert glamor for Miami’s glittering beaches, a direct flight will get you there in about two and a half hours.
United and American Airlines both offer multiple daily nonstop flights between Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IHA) and Miami International (MIA). There are no direct flights to Miami from Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport.
Making your way to Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport
George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IHA) is truly Texas-sized. It’s got five gigantic terminals spread over an airport campus of 11,000 acres. Luckily, all of the terminals are linked both before and after security. Terminals, A, B, and C are all connected by a shuttle bus, and Terminals B through E are also connected by the rapid TerminaLink train. There is also free WiFi available throughout the airport and each terminal has a pet relief area.
If you’d like to take public transit to IHA, you can take the METRO bus route 102. Tickets are $1.25. If you are driving, you will need to budget at least an hour’s driving time from downtown to the airport, and double that if you’re approaching rush hour. There are more than 25,000 parking spaces available, including both covered and uncovered spots in the “ecopark” which has super-affordable rates. Green-fueled shuttle buses connect the ecopark lot to all terminals.
Arriving in Miami
Miami is flash. It wears its tropical climate like a shimmering garment. This gigantic city has so much to explore, it’s hard to pinpoint a highlight. Instead, there is a sheen to the whole city, from its high-class shopping districts to its unbeatable nightclub scene.
In Miami, everyone dresses to impress, and more is always more, unless you’re talking about the size of the average bikini. The rhythms of this city are strong and intoxicating. The Cuban atmosphere of Little Havana pulses with color and life, while the grinding beats of Miami’s exclusive clubs will get anyone moving.
Beach life is a big deal here, where sunbathing and people-watching often come before swimming or surfing. Of course, just outside this sparkling city lie the Florida Everglades, where panthers and alligators still roam. For a (safe!) close encounter with Miami’s other wild side, hop on an airboat with the Everglades Safari, about a half-hour’s drive from the city.
