Sao Paulo Guarulhos is Sao Paulo's main international airport and the busiest one in South America. There are three terminals at GRU. There is a free shuttle bus that will transport you between Terminals 1 and 2, while Terminals 2 and 3 are linked by a passenger walkway. There is a fourth terminal building, but it is solely for air cargo.

The Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport lies about 16 miles away from the city's downtown. If you have a car rental while in Sao Paulo, you may be able to drive to the airport and return your rental there, where up to five rental service companies are located. Check with your rental car company first.

Rio de Janeiro also has a subway that is connected to the BRT network at the Vicente de Carvalho station. You may find it most convenient to take a taxi from the arrivals level at your terminal. Yellow taxi companies include Aerotaxi and Aerocoop and can cost about $19 to go to Ipanema.
