Finding cheap flights from Miami to New York: Frequently asked questions
If you're heading to the Big Apple from the Big Orange, you'll find a wide variety of daily flights out of Miami International Airport. You can fly with Delta, Frontier, United, or American. In all cases, the non-stop flight takes about three hours. The majority of these flights land at Newark Liberty, but if you would prefer to land at LaGuardia, Frontier's daily service goes there and their fares are usually among the cheapest on offer.
Miami Departure Information
Miami's MetroRail light rail system has a station at the airport. You can get there on the Green or Orange lines. You can also take the MIA Mover line to Central Station, where you can transfer to the Tri-Rail system that goes to West Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale. There is also a special city bus that makes stops along Miami Beach before heading to the airport, as well as five other buses that stop at the airport from various points throughout the city.
Miami International has some nicer dining options than you usually find at the airport. Highlights include the Cuban sandwiches and coffee at Cafe Versailles, Lorena Garcia's Caribbean restaurant, Sushi Maki, Estefan Kitchen and Half Moon Empanadas.
Preparing to Arrive at New York Airports
As mentioned, you'll almost always arrive at Newark Liberty when flying in from Miami, unless you take Frontier's service to LaGuardia. Newark Liberty is located in New Jersey about 20 miles southeast of New York City. There is no rail service directly from there to New York, but there is a bus called the Newark Airport Express that makes regular runs between the airport and Grand Central Station. Uber, Lyft and even standard taxis tend to be competitive with the cost of this bus, however.
If you're arriving at LaGuardia, you won't be able to connect directly to the rail lines or subway from the airport, but there are quite a few buses and shuttles. The quickest link to the subway system is the Q47 bus to the station at 74 St. and Roosevelt Avenue.
Both airports have places to grab a quick something to eat. Newark Liberty has about a dozen chains including Dunkin' Donuts, Earl of Sandwich, Jersey Mike's and Qdoba. LaGuardia has made an effort in recent years to get some higher-end options to improve the airport's general reputation, but there are still only a handful at present. These include Artichoke Pizza, Cotto Italian restaurant, Custom Burgers by Pat LaFrieda, Bisoux and Biergarten.
Things to do in New York
What isn't there to do in New York? The city offers some of the best dining, nightlife, shopping, cultural sites and shows to be found in the world. It even has beaches, though residents of Miami probably won't be so impressed with those.
Some iconic spots to visit in NYC include Times Square, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, and the Empire State Building. If you have a bit more time to spend in the city, you can also check out popular spots such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, and the Brooklyn Bridge. Luckily, there is an attraction to entertain groups of all times, from families to solo travelers as well. Construct your own itinerary and have a blast!
Given the size of the city and the overwhelming array of options, a guided tour is a great idea for a first visit.
